Beautiful November Day at Assiniboine Forest

Looking back at photos past it looks like a few years ago we already had tons of snow by mid November.   This year we have been blessed with a beautiful October and a not too bad November.  Those days are getting shorter though as the threat of flurries (no longer rain!) are in the forecast.

We were happy to head out on a short adventure with a friend who has an amazing passion for nature.  She is a great inspiration so when we are able to get together I jump at the opportunity.  It was nice to hang back a little and talk while the children explored on their own.  Do you see the little blue and red blurry figures in the distant field…2 young boys exploring on their own.   Hint they are before the tree line just before the middle bush 🙂

We walked a little faster to get into safety of the covered trees.  Although the sun was shining the wind was quite strong.   I love the beauty of Autumn.  Although beautiful trees filled with orange, red and yellow leaves are great I also love the peacefulness of walking amongst the trees that have shed their layers.  Getting ready for a long sleep only to transform again in the spring with the rebirth of beautiful buds and fresh green leaves.

The boys stopped to explore an old fallen tree.  Seeing if anything was still using it as a home.  The talk turned into questions about hibernation and which animals hibernate, which die over the winter and which can survive or migrate.

Never cease to grab the opportunity to take a different route back to the trail.  The children used the boardwalk rails as a walkway to return.

I love this photo.  Children stopping in the middle of a large trail to explore something.  Sitting where they stop, not hindered by dirt or mud. Not aware of the business of the world which exists outside of the forest and content with the simplicity and beauty mother nature has to offer.
